About The Wye Theatre Company
The Wye Theatre Company have been presenting plays for over
sixty years and have won awards at national and international drama festivals. We
aim to provide a varied programme and in particular to present plays which visiting
professional companies are unable to bring to Hereford for economic or other
reasons. We perform at a number of local venues, including The Courtyard and The Powell Theatre at the
Cathedral School. We also have a lot of fun!
Next production
In the Autumn we are planning to put on a production of Tom Stoppard's play The Real Inspector Hound. Readings are planned for Wednesday July 16th July at 7.30pm at the The Powell Theatre in Hereford Cathedral School. Full details are on the Next production page.
Previous Productions
The Wye theatre Company enjoyed a run of highly successful late-night comedy revues from 1985 to 2000, as part of the Three Choirs Festival. These revues began with an experimental ‘Cloisterphobia’ and developed through ‘Acute’, ‘Chronic’, ‘Galloping’, ‘Grumbling’ and ‘Terminal’ Cloisterphobia. They used entirely original material written by local authors including David Nobbs, best known for his creation of Reggie Perrin – the books and television series. The company occasionally presents revue-type entertainments, the most recent as part of the ‘Big Apple’ festival at Much Marcle in October 2005.
Recent productions at The Courtyard include Cold Comfort Farm, Under Milk Wood, Habeas Corpus, Blithe Spirit and various Studio productions including ‘Lucky Sods’ by John Godber.
We are an amateur group and membership is open to all; current members come from all walks of life and are of all ages. During productions, rehearsals take place three nights a week at various locations in Hereford. New members can be introduced to the group at any of these rehearsals.
There is plenty of scope to participate on or off stage and new members, experienced or new to theatre, are welcome.
